Cardinals Partner with The Cordish Company on Ballpark VillageSt. Louis -- June 02, 2005 -- St. Louis Cardinals Chairman of the Board and General Partner Bill DeWitt, Jr. and Sr. Vice President Business for Development Bill DeWitt III have announced that the club has chosen The Cordish Company as the developer for Ballpark Village. Ballpark Village will be located beyond left field of the new stadium in the space currently occupied by existing Busch Stadium. The Cardinals have completed much of the conceptual design of Ballpark Village and have now chosen a developer to join with them in making the project a reality. The Cordish Company was chosen because of their success with urban mixed use projects in other markets and because they share with the Cardinals a similar vision for the project. We looked at many companies around the country and feel confident that The Cordish Company is the best fit for our project,” said DeWitt III. “We are looking forward to moving on to the next stage of development.” The Cardinals and The Cordish Company will begin immediately finalizing plans for Ballpark Village. It is anticipated that the Village will contain retail and office space as well as residential buildings along with an expanded Cardinals Museum and other entertainment attractions. With its proximity to the new stadium, Ballpark Village is one of the preeminent mixed-use sites in the country,” said David S. Cordish, Chairman of the The Cordish Company. “We’re honored to be working with the Cardinals, the City of St. Louis and the state of Missouri to create a unique district that will be of significant benefit to the entire region.” Ballpark Village is a unique project: a development that will add retail, entertainment, dining, and hospitality hot spots in what will be one of the highest profile neighborhoods in the City,” added St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay. “Cordish Company has the experience and resources to create that sort of landmark to our city and I am very excited to hear they will be part of the team.” Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, The Cordish Company (www.cordish.com) is one of the leading real estate development companies in the United States.
